NYC Has Great Martial Arts Programs

As a Real Estate Agent with years of martial arts experience, I believe martial arts is an important part in the development of children. It teaches them how to have discipline, an indomitable spirit, persistence, consistency and follow through. Because of my experiences, I know what to do and what not to do with not only in martial arts but also in life. If you're a parent of a child who loves martial arts or has an expendable amount of energy, martial arts is an important outlet. Besides, who doesn't love watching tiny 3 year old fur balls punching and kicking?

Here are the benefits of enrolling your kids in kids striking or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. Firstly, you have the opportunity to take on a new hobby that not only gets you in shape, but also teaches you new self defense skills that can aid you in everyday life. Secondly, you will have a common goal with your kids that can be quality time spent. Enrolling yourself and your kids in a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program will save you time by getting you in shape, teaching you real world skills, and create more bonding time with your kids out of your busy schedule. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or striking arts like Muay Thai teach real world skills that will come in handy someday should you be in a position to use them. It creates bonding experiences with your kids by having common goals. And it will also teach them anti-bullying skills so they have the confidence to go through life more easily.

I won't comment on which schools are the best in the area because that would be biased of me, unjust, and there are too many excellent schools to review. However, I can mention which neighborhoods in Queens that have great kids BJJ programs.

The picture above are just some of the schools that are excellent options, and with most of them having kids programs as well. If you need an easy commute to the city, you would ideally want to live in Sunnyside, Astoria, Maspeth, Elmhurst, or Corona. Or if you'd rather live in more suburban-esque neighborhoods, Fresh Meadows, some areas in Flushing, Kew Garden Hills, or Bayside would be great places to live in. These are just some of the areas that have great Brazilian Jiu Jitsu schools with great kids programs. Definitely type in "Jiu Jitsu" on google maps, and then head over to their web page to read more about them and their schedules. The following paragraphs will teach you how to find the best schools for you.

Here are some tips that will aid you in your journey. For Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Muay Thai schools, lineage is an important factor. Lineage is merely a way to gauge how legitimate the instructor of a school will be. It shows where your instructor got his black belt from, and where the tree's origin leads to (usually a Gracie family member) and which team they are from. The great thing about New York City is that there is an abundance of instructors with strong lineage, and most of the instructors are top notch individuals with strong ethics and moral characters. Definitely check out Yelp.com in order to double or triple check. Don't hesitate to try a free trial class to see how well your children like some of these programs or not.

Here is how to find out which lineage your instructor is from. For Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, go to www.bjjheroes.com and type in the name of your instructor. It should populate and your instructor's name should be on the site. If your instructor is not on there, that means she or he may be someone that doesn't have much information on them, but is still a legitimate and great black belt in BJJ. You can read more about them on their web page or google them to find out more information.

My own Brazilian Jiu Jitsu professor's credentials. He has a gym in Chelsea Manhattan.
For Muay Thai, simply google your instructor's name or read their bio and see whether they come from a line of great instructors. Muay Thai instructors from Thailand all come from a specific gym and so their last names signify which gym they are from. For example, Saenchai who is one of the most well-known Muay Thai fighters has a last name of Sor.Kamsing which signifies that he is from Kamsing gym. If someone is from Fairtex his or her last name would be Fairtex. One of the most well known fighters from Fairtex would be Yodsanklai Fairtex. Usually an instructor comes from one of them, and if in America, she or he would note as so on their bio page.

Martial Arts is a way of life. It is definitely a great tool that aids your child in development and self-defense. I remember when I was a kid growing up in the public school system; I got bullied a lot and I was unable to stand up for myself because I didn't have confidence in my abilities. Usually parents have no idea what their kids are going through, and kids have to learn at an early age how to stick up for themselves and problem solve things for themselves. This is where development is crucial, and will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
I would love to help you in finding great houses in neighborhoods that have great martial arts programs that you and your kids will learn and bond over. I aim to be non-biased and show you all of the houses that meet your needs in accordance to Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Laws; It will be up to you to make your own decisions for selection. Thanks for reading! Don't forget to check me out on my YouTube channel and have a great Christmas if you don't hear from me!
